The Egyptian National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has successfully conducted the first trial of mobile services operating within the upper 6 GHz (U6GHz) frequency band. This development positions Egypt as the first country in Africa to validate this band for cellular communications.

Strategic Implications for Manufacturers:
  • The U6GHz band has been formally integrated into Egypt's long-term national spectrum plan (2030–2035).
  • The trial demonstrated high-capacity performance, achieving data speeds of approximately 1.7 Gbps, intended for 5G and next-generation data-intensive applications.
  • The regulator intends to review and update the spectrum plan for this band every five years to remain aligned with market evolution.

For manufacturers looking to align their R&D and market entry strategies with the evolving regulatory landscape in Egypt, this shift suggests new opportunities for hardware supporting this frequency range. Understanding how this spectrum integration will impact future type approval and homologation requirements is critical for maintaining market readiness.
